Echidna, Melbourne Zoo
A short-beaked Echidna at Braeside, Victoria, Australia. Echidnas curl up into a ball when they become frightened.
The short-beaked Echidna forages through ant and termite nests.
Echidnas fall into the extremely rare category of monotremes – they are quite different to any other mammal as they lay eggs and have no teats.
